Bapes Bapes
(NewsWatch Cameroon)-After spending a night at the Special Criminal Court where he was summoned
yesterday, Secondary Education Minister Loius Bapes Bapes has been transfered to the Kondengui maximum security prison in Yaounde today March 31, 2014.
Though at the time of this report no clear reason had been given for the arrest of the Secondary Education boss, it is speculated that the arrest is not unconnected with the embezzlement of state funds.
The former secretary of state in the same Ministry, Catherine Abena former close collaborator of Bapes Bapes who died on March 19, 2014 in Yaounde was also arrested and detained for allegedly embezzling state funds amounting to FCFA 250 million.
When she was arrested, comentators said the secretary of state could not have been arrested without her boss.
Bapes Bapes will thus be spending his first night at the Kondengui maximum security prison in Yaounde where other former members of government are also detained for alleged embezzlement of state funds.
Bapes Bapes arrest has caused much ink to flow because he is the first serving minister to be arrested and detained at the Kondengui. All other former ministers who have been arrested for same purpose were usually sacked from government before their arrest.
A classified source at the prison has hinted that the secondary education minister is ‘lodged’ at ‘Quartier 7’ of the ‘prestigeous’ section of the prison, near his former colleague, Urbain Olanguena. The source adds that the newest VIP inmate was recieved by his former colleague, Jean Marie Atangana Mebara with whom he had a long discussion before leaving for his new house.
Relatives brought the minister a matress and some items to help him begin his new found life.
On March 24, 2014, Bapes Bapes headed the CPDM central committee delegation to the Sanaga Maritime during the 29th anniversary celebrations of the party.
Since news of Mr. Bapes Bapes's arrest broke out, pqnic hqs reportedly gripped Yaounde as it is being lingered in that many more top officials will join the secondary minister at the prison in the days ahead.
